About This Course
HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a nationally recognised unit of competency that gives you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to respond to a cardiac arrest at home, at work, or in the community. The half day class is delivered face to face by experienced trainers using the latest Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.
You will work through the chain of survival, complete continuous, high quality compressions on adult and infant manikins, and rehearse safe defibrillator use. The session also covers safe scene assessment, recovery position, and clear handover to paramedics, plus the documentation and reporting expected in workplaces. On successful completion you receive a Statement of Attainment that meets workplace, NDIS, and aged care provider requirements.

Scene safety, primary survey, and the chain of survival framework that underpins every Australian CPR class.
02 High Quality Compressions
Practical drills on adult and infant manikins covering rate, depth, recoil, and minimal interruption.
03 Rescue Breaths and Airway
Airway opening, ventilation technique, recovery position, and the use of barrier devices for infection control.
04 Defibrillation in Practice
Step by step practice with a training defibrillator including pad placement, voice prompts, and team work.
05 Handover and Documentation
Briefing paramedics on arrival, completing incident records, and meeting workplace reporting expectations.

Assessments
How You'll Be Assessed
Assessment is competency based and runs throughout the day. You will complete a short written knowledge check covering the chain of survival, infection control, and resuscitation principles, then demonstrate two minutes of continuous, high quality compressions and rescue breaths on adult and infant manikins. A final scenario asks you to lead a simulated cardiac arrest, including defibrillator use and handover to paramedics.
Requirements
Entry Requirements
- You must be at least 14 years of age on the day of training
- A reasonable level of physical fitness so you can kneel and perform compressions on a manikin on the floor
- A Unique Student Identifier, which we can help you create on the day if needed
- Photo identification for sign in at the start of the session

Come Prepared
- Photo identification and your USI for enrolment confirmation
- Comfortable, modest clothing that allows free movement on the floor
- A reusable water bottle and any personal medication you may need
- A notebook and pen for short knowledge activities
Certification
Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment
On successful completion you receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework through our partner Registered Training Organisation. The statement is accepted across NDIS, aged care, education, and general workplace settings.
The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends a CPR refresher every twelve months. Most employers and providers expect this, so we encourage you to book your next session ahead of expiry.
