Assessments

How You'll Be Assessed

Assessment in this course is competency based and designed to reflect the real responsibilities of working in aged care and disability support. Throughout the qualification, students will complete a range of assessment tasks to demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Assessment methods include:

  • Written knowledge assessments covering topics such as legal and ethical requirements, person-centred care, infection control, and effective client communication
  • Portfolio tasks and case studies that apply learning to real-world care scenarios
  • Role plays and simulated activities to demonstrate safe, respectful, and professional interaction with clients
  • Practical workplace assessments completed during the required 120 hours of work placement, where a qualified assessor will observe and assess competency in direct care tasks

To achieve the qualification, students must demonstrate competency in all units. If additional support is needed, students will be provided with further guidance and another opportunity to successfully demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

Entry Requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or over at the time of commencement
  • Hold adequate language, literacy, and numeracy skills in English to read care documentation, write clear notes, and follow verbal instructions
  • Complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) assessment prior to enrolment so that any additional learning support can be arranged
  • Be able to meet the physical inherent requirements of work placement, including manual handling, personal care tasks, and sustained periods of standing and moving
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a current National Police Clearance before commencing work placement
  • Arrange a suitable approved placement site that meets the qualification's work placement requirements
  • Have a Unique Student Identifier, which you can create for free at www.usi.gov.au

Certification

Nationally Recognised Qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework

Upon successful completion of all 15 units of competency and the required 120 hours of work placement, you will be awarded the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability). This nationally recognised qualification is issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

The qualification is recognised across Australia and valued by NDIS providers, aged care facilities, home care agencies, and community service organisations nationwide. Students who complete selected units without finishing the full course will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units achieved. Credit transfer may also be available for eligible units previously completed through another Registered Training Organisation.
