Tracheostomy Support Course
Refresh safe, person centred tracheostomy support for NDIS participants in home and community settings.
A focused refresher in safe, dignified bowel care for NDIS participants who need delegated clinical support.
Complex Bowel Care Management is a one day refresher for support workers, carers, and disability practitioners who deliver delegated bowel care under an NDIS plan. The course revisits anatomy of the lower digestive system, common bowel conditions, and the principles of person centred care, then moves into safe, structured procedures including the use of suppositories, enemas, and digital stimulation when delegated by a registered nurse.
You will practise hand hygiene, infection control, dignified positioning, and clear documentation, then work through observation cues that signal a participant is unwell. Real scenarios drawn from in home and community settings help you apply current best practice, reduce risk, and protect dignity. Trainers remain close throughout the day to coach technique, answer questions, and confirm competence before sign off.
Describe the anatomy and function of the lower digestive system in plain language
Apply infection control and hand hygiene to every stage of bowel care
Carry out delegated bowel care procedures safely and with respect for dignity
Recognise warning signs of constipation, impaction, and bowel obstruction
Document outcomes and report changes to the registered nurse and team leader
Communicate with participants and families using respectful, person centred language
Review NDIS practice standards, the role of the support worker, scope of practice, and the boundaries that protect both you and the participant.
Refresh your knowledge of the bowel, common conditions seen in NDIS participants, and the medications often prescribed alongside care.
Walk step by step through suppositories, enemas, and digital stimulation, with guidance on equipment selection, lubricants, and safe positioning.
Practise charting outcomes, recognising red flags, and writing handover notes that support clinical and behaviour plans.
Complete simulated scenarios, receive trainer feedback, and demonstrate competence before your statement is issued.
Provide skilled support to NDIS participants in their homes and the community with confidence in this clinical task.
Deliver consistent, high quality care across a roster of participants while meeting provider quality requirements.
Support participants to remain safely at home through accurate procedures, observation, and timely reporting.
Assist nurses and allied health teams by carrying out delegated tasks safely under their direct supervision.
Assessment is competency based and runs throughout the day. You will complete short written checks on bowel anatomy and infection control, then demonstrate each delegated procedure on a clinical mannequin under direct trainer observation. A final scenario asks you to plan, deliver, document, and hand over a complete bowel care session in a simulated home environment.
On successful completion you receive a So Rig Institute Statement of Attendance confirming your refresher in this skill area. The statement lists the topics covered, the date attended, and the trainer who delivered the session, and is suitable for inclusion in your professional development file.
We recommend a refresher every twelve months, in line with NDIS practice standards and most provider policies, so your skills, documentation, and incident reporting stay current.
This refresher is designed for disability support workers, community care workers, and allied health assistants who already provide or are about to provide delegated bowel care under an NDIS plan.
No clinical background is required. You only need current support work experience, a willingness to learn, and a genuine commitment to safe, respectful practice.
Most providers expect a refresher every twelve months. Your registered nurse delegator may also request a refresher after any incident or change in participant needs.
Yes. The afternoon is dedicated to simulated practice on clinical mannequins so you can rehearse each step in a safe environment before you sign off.
The Statement of Attendance is a non accredited refresher recognised across the disability sector and can be added to your professional development file.
